Cuenca – Claines Project

This year's International Community Project hit new heights!

During the week which began on Monday 18th May, 10 children and three teachers visited us from our Spanish link school in Cuenca . During the three days they were staying with us in Claines, we created a large wall hanging based on Lowey’s “Coming out of the Mill” but our artwork had us going in to our school.

We were, of course, very excited about this. We drew pictures of the school buildings as well as pictures of the school grounds. The centre piece to the wall hanging is the main door into school, and Cuenca and Claines children going inside our school. It is to show that children all round the world can be friends with each other.

On Tuesday we walked up the Malvern Hills . It poured down with rain. To be more precise the heavens opened! We had to call the coach and go back to school early. Once we got back we had to call our parents to bring us some dry clothes.

The Spanish children were wonderful; many parents expressed how polite and well mannered they were and also how well they spoke English. The children really enjoyed their stay in both London and Claines.

Our children were also a delight to take away and made Mr Mann and Miss Armstrong very proud. I know many of the children really enjoyed themselves and the whole experience of staying in a foreign country with a Spanish family, trying new foods and experiencing a different culture. Many have also said they would love to go again and will be keeping in touch with their Spanish friends in the future. All joking aside this has been a fantastic experience for all the children and adults involved.
